Wentzville Hires New City Administrator

The Wentzville Board of Aldermen has chosen a new City Administrator and will review the proposed contract at next week's regular meeting.

T. Michael McDowell, who is currently employed as the city manager for the city of Olivette, was the board's choice from the five finalist candidates under consideration.

According to a press release issued this morning by the City of Wentzville,McDowell has nearly 40 years of city manager/administrator experience, having worked in multiple suburban areas across four states.

“Wentzville is a great place to live, work, and raise a family," McDowell said. "I look forward to the opportunity to get to know the city’s officials, staff, and the great citizens of Wentzville and join with them helping to move the community forward."

After the contract is approved by the board and the mayor, McDowell's start date would be March 4, 2013. His annual salary will be $122,400, and he will have a city-owned vehicle for his use.

Wentzville has been without a permanent city administrator since Dianna Wright left in August of 2011.

The city conducted their own searches without identifying a candidate for the position. In August of last year, the city hired the Mercer Group, paying $16,500 for professional fees to recruit candidates, review resumes, screen the finalists, conduct background investigations, and coordinate interviews.

Wentzville’s board of aldermen also recently approved another contract with the Mercer Group to fill the city’s vacant Director of Public Works position.
