Bedford Public Library Foundation Fall Gala

Bedford Public Library Foundation Fall Gala

Dr. Meoghan B. Cronin Coming to Bedford Public Library

On Sunday, November 18, 2012, at 5:00 PM the Bedford Library Foundation will feature Dr. Meoghan B. Cronin as this year’s speaker for the Fall Gala.  Wine and hors d'oeuvres will be served beginning at 5 pm and the presentation will take place at 6 pm in the McAllaster Room at the Bedford Public Library.

"The Dubious and Awesome History of the Novel” will be the topic for Dr. Cronin’s talk.  She will focus on "why the novel matters" in a fun and interesting way.   People who love books like to hear about the origins of the novel form, who read them, who wrote them, where the "classic" novels came from (historically and artistically), the major developments in the novel, etc.  This sort of topic brings in art, class, gender, history, culture, etc.   She will include several major works that people will recognize.

Cronin specializes in Romantic and Victorian literature and has been recognized for her excellence in motivating and inspiring students. She was selected by the New Hampshire College and University Council for the New Hampshire Excellence in Education Award for postsecondary education in 2006.  She spoke to the Bedford Women’s Club in January on Mary Shelley’s Gothic classic Frankenstein.
