Department of Corrections Implements Electronic Health Records System

CONCORD, NH — New Hampshire Department of Corrections Commissioner William L. Wrenn announced that the NHDOC is transitioning its paper-based medical records into an electronic document management system. The new Electronic Health Record (EHR) system was activated on Nov. 15, 2016, according to a press statement from Jeff Lyons, the public information officer from the NH DOC.

In 2013, the Legislature appropriated $500,000 in capital funding to acquire an EHR system, which is fully interfaced with the NHDOC’s offender management database (CORIS). In early 2016, a contract was awarded to NaphCare of Alabama to facilitate the implementation of their EHR product, TechCare.

The Department’s Division of Medical & Forensic Services is excited to enhance their patient encounters with ready access through the digital record to lab results, imaging, medication and other pertinent healthcare information.

Commissioner Wrenn said, “This is an important step in increasing efficiency in the way that we manage our health records. It brings the DOC into line with the practices of other medical providers in New Hampshire and around the country.”
