Iconic Rockers Cheap Trick to Perform Pre-Race Concert at NHMS

LOUDON, NH — The Best (Bleeping) Rock Band You've Ever Seen is coming back to the capital region, specifically, a pre-race show next month at the New Hampshire Motor Speedway before the New England 300 on Sept. 25, 2016, according to a press statement. Legendary rockers Cheap Trick will perform at 45-minute set at 11 a.m. in the frontstretch stage prior to the start of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race next month.

“It goes without saying that I can’t wait for the green flag to fly on Sept. 25, but I am also incredibly excited to host Cheap Trick, one of the most iconic bands in American rock history, perform on our pre-race stage,” said David McGrath, executive vice president and general manager of NHMS. “Having 2016 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Inductee Cheap Trick perform is a great addition to an exciting weekend of racing and entertainment for our fans and a great way to kick off our Chase race.”

Since forming in 1973, the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Famers have sold more than 20 million albums. They irregularly play in New Hampshire, usually every two or three years in Hampton and have also played in Gilford in recent years. Cheap Trick is no stranger to racetracks either - having played the New England Dragway in Epping in 1983. But the band hasn't actually played in the capital region since the mid-1980s. According to McGrath, the band is expected to play some of its biggest hits including "Surrender," "I Want You to Want Me," and "Dream Police." On their current tour, they've also performed "Taxman" and "Magical Mystery Tour" by the Beatles.

The concert is free for anyone who has purchased a ticket to the New England 300; for stage-front access, Pre-Race Pit Passes are available for fans.
