MERRIMACK, NH — Merrimack Fire and Rescue teams extinguished a truck fire this morning on the Daniel Webster Highway, according to a press statement. Firefighters were sent to area of Webb Drive at around 9:30 a.m. on Nov. 15, 2016, for a report of a dump truck pulling a trailer.

Engine 2 as well as the assistant chief and fire marshal arrived and found the dump truck, pulling an excavator, with a fully involved engine compartment.

“Lt. Farrell in command of Engine 2 started a rapid attack and quickly knocked down the bulk of the fire,” according to John Manuele of the Merrimack Fire Department. “The crew then forced open the hood and doors and completely extinguished the fire.”

The driver of the vehicle, a 2004 Ford F-350 owned by Abundant Mechanical LLC of Pembroke, stated that he was driving south on the Daniel Webster Highway when smoke began billowing from under the hood, Manuele noted. He then pulled the truck over to the side of the road and exited the truck. He then saw fire under the engine and called 911.

The cause of the fire was determined to be accidental, due to a malfunction of the vehicle engine. There were no injuries and all fire personnel cleared the scene by 10:36 a.m.
