To kick off the 2013-14 Citizens Bank Performing Arts Series, Citizens Bank and the Palace Theatre are hosting a special preview performance of the Pulitzer Prize- and Tony Award-winning musical Rent on September 12 at 7 p.m. Citizens will celebrate the start of the 2013 academic year by making free tickets available to college students for the preview performance of this celebrated show.
Rent is Jonathan Larson's musical about a group of artists, many of whom live with AIDS, struggling to maintain their friendships. A re-imagining of Puccini's opera La Bohème, Rent follows a year in the lives of seven friends living in New York's East Village who learn to follow their dreams without selling out. The musical’s New York production won Tony Awards in 1996 for best book and best musical and is recognized as one of Broadway’s longest-running shows.
“The Palace Theatre shares our commitment to giving back to the community,” said Joe Carelli, President of Citizens Bank and RBS Citizens, New Hampshire. “Recognizing the important role area colleges and their students play in the region’s economic vitality, we are happy to offer a special night for students to enjoy the show on us.”
Pre-show festivities will begin at 5:30 p.m. and will include refreshments and giveaways. Seating for this free performance is limited, and advance registration is required. Students can receive up to two free tickets to the preview night event by emailing the box office at firstname.lastname@example.org; visiting the box office located at 80 Hanover Street in Manchester, N.H.; or calling 603.668.5588.
“We are proud of our history of partnering with Citizens Bank for the good of the community and to extend this special offer to all New Hampshire college students,” said Peter Ramsey, president of the Palace Theatre. “Citizens Bank should be recognized for its generous support of the theatre, which enables us to bring award-winning performances to our stage for the entire community to enjoy. We are delighted to kick off the season with this special preview.”
Citizens Bank has sponsored Palace Theatre productions, known as the Citizens Bank Performing Arts Series, since 2000. The 2013-14 season is packed with Broadway favorites such as Monty Python’s SPAMALOT and A Chorus Line, an encore of Divas Through the Decades (an original Palace Theatre production), Christmas favorites such as The Nutcracker and A Christmas Carol, and a debut original musical production called My Mixtape: The Sounds of the 80’s.
