Visitors generated more than $1.2 billion in area spending.

Tourism to LBI a Big Job Creator in Southern Ocean

Tourism to the Long Beach Island area supports 14% of all employment in Ocean County, and 83 cents of each dollar spent in the area by tourists to this area is kept within Ocean County, according to findings from a study commissioned by the Long Beach Island Region Destination Marketing Organization.

It is hoped that by analyzing the direct, indirect, and induced effects from visitor spending, the report, written by the marketing company Rockport Analytics, will help local businesses and future investors in the LBI area craft marketing and development efforts moving forward.

The report noted that between January and December 2011, travelers spent $459 million on lodging, $296 million on food and beverage, $259 million on shopping and $115 million on entertainment and recreation in the area known as the "LBI footprint."

For an in-depth presentation of the study, Rockport Analytics will be at the January 8 State of the Chamber at Sea Oaks Country Club to review.

Information about the State of the Chamber event and the study is available at the Southern Ocean County Chamber of Commerce 265 W Ninth St, Ship Bottom at www.visitLBIregion.com
