Bernards Twp. Town Hall Reopened

Boilers reported fixed at municipal building, Planning Board meeting is on for Tuesday night.

Bernards Twp. Town Hall Reopened

The Bernards Township Town Hall reopened as planned on Tuesday afternoon, following boiler repairs to the historic building at 1 Collyer Lane in Basking Ridge, which had initially closed on Monday due to a natural gas leak and smell of fumes.

Boilers were back up at around lunchtime Tuesday, said Township Administrator Bruce McArthur, and the building was reported to be open again on the township's Facebook page just before 2 p.m.

A scheduled Planning Board meeting at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday will be held as planned, said McArthur and the Facebook page.

The town hall at the municipal complex at 1 Collyer Lane remained closed Tuesday morning while repairs on were underway on the historic building's heating system, Township Administrator Bruce McArthur said earlier in the day. He said the heating system then would be tested.

The Planning Board's meeting agenda includes a public hearing on the Islamic Society of Basking Ridge's proposal for a mosque in Liberty Corner.

Because of a natural gas leak, town hall and municipal offices were closed on Monday, and the township announced on its website and Facebook page that the building would remain closed through Tuesday morning, at least.

Municipal employees were moved to the Bernards Township Library and throughout the township for regular business, according to the township announcement.

On Monday, McArthur said Public Service Electric & Gas fixed a leak at the main meter today.
