Cancer Support Community Central NJ to Host Performance of The God Box

Cancer Support Community Central NJ to Host Performance of The God Box

Proceeds to benefit the free program of support at CSCCNJ

Bedminster, NJ, February 21, 2014 Cancer Support Community Central New Jersey will host a performance of The God Box: A Daughter’s Story, a one woman, one act play featuring Mary Lou Quinlan, based on her New York Times bestselling book, at the Bickford Theatre at Morris Museum on Saturday, March 22, at 5:00 p.m.

In this engaging performance, Quinlan explores the laughter and tears of the story of a family in love, in loss and in triumph. The God Box: A Daughter's Story, co-written with director Martha Wollner of New York City's critically acclaimed LAByrinth Theater Company, runs 70 minutes.

The play is the true story of a discovery Quinlan made after the devastating loss of her mother:  private boxes of scribbled letters to God-written by the very hand that had slipped away. These tiny notes, asking for everything from the right flooring for her daughter’s new home to a cure for her own blood cancer, lure Quinlan on a journey to the ultimate human challenge: learning to let go in order to live.

Quinlan is a marketer, author, actress, speaker and advocate for women. Quinlan owns a marketing company, Just Ask a Woman and has written inspirational features for Real Simple, O, the Oprah magazine, and more. She’s appeared as a correspondent on The CBS EARLY Show and many news shows as well as a judge on the premiere season of the ABC series American Inventor among many media appearances. Quinlan, as well as her parents, all experienced cancer.

General admission tickets are $30; VIP tickets, which include premium seating and a copy of The God Box book, are $45.  Tickets can be purchased in person at 6 Normandy Height Road, by calling the Bickford Theatre at 6 Normandy Heights Road in Morristown, NJ, or by calling the box office at (973) 971-3706.  The performance will be followed by a Q&A session and book signing; copies of The God Box will be available for $15.

All proceeds will benefit CSCCNJ, an organization that creates a supportive community to address the needs of individuals, family, friends and caregivers living with, through and beyond cancer.  This program of support is free of charge thanks to the generosity of donors in the community.  CSCCNJ support is available during one’s entire journey with cancer and continues through bereavement for those who need it.

This is one of several events hosted by CSCCNJ every year; CSCCNJ is also getting ready for Strides for Hope, their annual destination marathon/half marathon that will be run this year at the Cincinnati Flying Pig Marathon in Cincinnati, Ohio, on May 4.
