Nearly 7,000 Still Without Power in Bernards

Nearly 7,000 Bernards JCP&L customers remained without power early Monday morning.

According to the utility company's outage map, 6,660 were still out as of 5 a.m.

The Bernards Township website said Sunday night that JCP&L was reporting 6,314 out of 13,047 Bernards Township customers remained without power, and about 52 percent of customers have had power restored. More detailed JCP&L updates and also information on election polling sites are on the website.

Food, water and ice were available at Bernards Township police headquarters, Lt. Mike Shimsky, who heads the township's Office of Emergency Management, said at 5:40 p.m. on Sunday.

Shimsky said he did not have a status report on Halloween trick or treating, which the governor had delayed statewide until Monday. Nearby Bernardsville has called off trick or treating until further notice after power is restored.

YMCA at Riverwalk to open 5:15 a.m. Monday

Meanwhile, the Somerset Hills YMCA is due to open again at 5:15 a.m. on Monday, to both non-members and members alike. More than 120 non-members had signed in for showers on Sunday, the staff said. The facility is scheduled to remain open until 10:30 p.m. on Monday. However, the YMCA's main facility at 140 Mount Airy Road remained closed, without power, as of Sunday night.

On Sunday afternoon, the Hills Highlands Master Association clubhouse was also reported to be open for residents for showering and powering up laptops and cellphones.

Meanwhile, some previously blocked roads had been opened as of about 2:30 p.m. on Sunday.

Maple Avenue from Collyer Lane north to Route 202 was then open, although the large tree blocking South Maple Avenue by Lord Stirling Stable remained closed, said Township Committeeman John Malay.
