Superintendent Search Continues, 2nd Round Interviews Completed In Bernards Township
The search moved forward in executive session, with a public name expected only when an approval is finalized.

BASKING RIDGE, NJ — The Bernards Township Board of Education(BOE) has completed second-round interviews in its search for a new superintendent.
Board President Jennifer White provided an update on the superintendent search to the public at the Monday BOE meeting.
"First rounds of interviews were completed earlier this month, and the full board of education completed second round of interviews earlier tonight during executive session," said White on March 23.

No candidate has been publicly identified.
White said no individual will be named until that person is placed on a board agenda or meeting agenda for approval, "which we hope will be sometime this spring."

Before anyone can be appointed superintendent, the board will work with counsel on contract terms, which must be approved by the Executive County Superintendent of Schools before an appointment can be made.
The board had initially received 32 applications for the position, said White earlier in March.
The search for a new Superintendent began when Nick Markarian announced his retirement after 25 years of working in the district. He is retiring effective Aug. 31.
Markarian started his career in Bernards as an assistant principal in 2001.
He moved up to become the school principal at William Annin until he was later appointed as Business Administrator.
In 2012, Markarian was appointed Superintendent to succeed Valerie Goger.
