Victim chased suspect who 'had a funny walk'

Man Tries to Break Into Occupied Nutley Home

A Washington Avenue resident foiled an attempted burglary of his home, Nutley police reported.

The victim was home around 8:30 am Oct 15 when he heard a noise at the door. When he investigated, he saw a screwdriver wedged in the frame, then saw someone through the peephole. When the victim called through the door, the man identified himself as a neighbor.

When the man ran, the victim chased him to the rear of the building but the man escaped, police said. The victim told police he and his girlfriend had seen the man around the building several times before.

The man is described as white, standing 5’8” with a thin build and black, spiky hair. He was wearing a light blue shirt and dark blue sweat pants. He was also described as having a “funny walk.”
