Berkeley, Ocean Gate Detectives Arrest Suspect In Dunkin Donuts Robbery

Berkeley Township and Ocean Gate police arrested the suspect in the July 14 Dunkin Donuts robbery after they found him on the roof of an apartment building in Ocean Gate, Police Chief Karin T. DiMichele said.

Joshua David Hill, 35, was arrested without incident on Wednesday afternoon after police received tips from concerned citizens who first spotted him at the Wawa in Bayville. Police learned that Hill had just been dropped off at a West Chelsea Avenue home in Ocean Gate, the chief said.

Hill fled on foot from the scene upon the approach of patrol cars. Police quickly located him hiding on the roof of the building. He surrendered without incident and was taken to the Berkeley Township Police Department and later to the Ocean County Jail in default of bail, DiMichele said.

Police responded to the store on July 14 after they received an active panic alarm. Employees told police that a man had entered the store, demanded money and made "threatening" gestures towards them. The man fled on foot on Route 9, without taking anything, DiMichele said.

No injuries were reported, the chief said.

"This successful conclusion is again the result of cooperative collaborative investigation between neighboring jurisdictions as well as the information gathered by the many tips received by citizens," DiMichele said. "These tips were received not only by investigative personal, but also by citizens leaving information of the Berkeley Township Police Tip Line."
