Monday is Youth Government Day for BHS Students

On Monday, May 21, Bloomfield high school students will get the chance to see firsthand what life in city government is like.

The students' visit will include tours of the Bloomfield Municipal Court, Law Enforcement Building and Fire Department headquarters.  The students will also get a chance to meet township officials and discuss local government.

The Youth Week Government Day tour will begin at 9:00am in the Council Chambers of the Municipal Building. Mayor Raymond J. McCarthy will make the introductory remarks and welcome the students.

The mayor's introduction will be followed by talks by Township Council members and various department heads from government offices.

Later, the students will visit the Bloomfield Municipal Court Law Enforcement Building and become better acquainted with some of the functions of municipal government.

Students will then divide into groups to tour, on a rotating basis, the following departments/buildings, where they will have the opportunity to ask questions of the department heads:

Township Engineer Paul Lasek, Municipal Building, Room 203

Health Director Karen Lore of the Health and Human Services Department, Room 111

Police Chief Christopher Goul in the Law Enforcement Building

Fire Chief Joseph McCarthy at Fire Department Headquarters

At the conclusion of the tours, the school groups will reconvene and proceed to the Civic Center for a luncheon and presentation of awards.
