The Brick Township Police Department has seen an increase in reports from local residents who have fallen victim to telephone scams.

The Brick Township Police Department has seen an increase in reports from local residents who have fallen victim to telephone scams.
In many of these cases, the caller says they are an employee of the IRS, other government agencies and utility companies, police said. The victim is then threatened with arrest or the interruption of their utility service, unless they immediately send payment via a pre-paid cash card.
Keep in mind that no utility company, or government agency, will ask for any type of money card as payment, police said. In most cases, funds that are sent by these means are not recoverable, police said.
