Brick Splits BOE Vote Between Tickets

Brick voters have elected Susan Suter, Frank Pannucci, Jr. and Michael Conti to full, three-year terms on the Board of Education, while Karyn Cusanelli won a one-year unexpired term on the board, preliminary results from the Ocean County Clerk's office showed.

Pannucci and Conti ran on the same ticket. Suter and Cusanelli were both part of a different ticket.

The results released by the clerk's office do not represent any mail-in ballots, however. The closest race was for the one year expired term, which Cusanelli was winning by 437 votes after all of Brick's 57 election districts had turned in their ballots.

"I'm very humbled," said current board member Suter, who was elected to a full, three year term after serving a one year unexpired term. "We're going to continue what we're doing, increase the standards in the classroom and fix our facilities, one project at a time."

"I would truly like to thank anyone who supported out ticket and supported me," said Cusanelli. "I especially appreciate the people who really made the effort to vote, especially under these circumstances."

Pannucci – the highest vote-getter of the night, also thanked his ticket's supporters.

"It's from the heart, we did this with the right intentions," said Pannucci. "We're going to do our best, work with everybody and do what needs to be done, first and foremost."

"We're encouraged and motivated by the town," said Conti.

The final vote tally, including the mail-in and provisional ballots, will not be certified until Nov. 21, officials said.
