Christie to Hold 'Town Hall' in Brick Tuesday Afternoon

Governor will host 'town hall' meeting at Lake Riviera Middle School as budget battle looms

Christie to Hold 'Town Hall' in Brick Tuesday Afternoon

Gov. Chris Christie will host a town hall meeting in Brick Tuesday, his office said last week.

The meeting will be held at off Beaverson Boulevard. Doors open at 2:15 p.m. and seating will be on a first come, first serve basis, Christie's staffers said. The event is open to the public.

The governor's ongoing series of town halls, where queries from the public are taken in addition to the governor's statements, are often packed events that cover a range of topics concerning both state and local issues.

Previous town halls held throughout the state have seen Christie go on the offensive against political rivals, promote his public policy agenda and, occasionally, survive some heckling.

The Brick appearance could prove especially interesting for political observers, as it will come just days before the state's fiscal year comes to an end July 1.

Christie, a Republican, and Democrats in the state legislature have locked horns in recent weeks over the governor's plan to cut state income tax rates by 10 percent over three years despite a level of uncertainty surrounding state revenue projections.

Other ongoing debates this budget season have included the administration's plan to merge Rutgers University in Camden with Rowan University, as well as a transportation borrowing plan that has drawn the ire of some conservatives.

Residents interested in attending the meeting can call the governor’s office at 609-777-2500 for more information or to RSVP.
