A 16-year-old Brick Township resident on a skateboard was struck by a minivan while crossing a busy intersection Friday night just after 10 p.m., police said.

Traffic was detoured on Route 70 near the intersection with Route 88 for about two hours after the accident, in which a 2005 Toyota Sienna minivan being driven by Michael E. Dejuana Jr., 21, of Brick, struck a 16-year-old juvenile who was riding a skateboard, said Brick Police Officer Scott Dierking.

The teen, whose identity was not released, was riding across the eastbound lanes of Route 70 against a "do not walk" signal and had crossed three lanes before being hit by Dejuana, who had a green light at the time, Dierking said.

The teen was thrown to the center median; the minivan stopped in the left lane of Route 70.

Brick Police EMS and MONOC paramedics arrived on scene and transported the teen to Jersey Shore University Medical Center. He or she was reported to have sufferred an unknown head trauma, a broken leg and several lacerations.

Brick Township Police Traffic Safety Officers Dierking and Jay Lampiasi are investigating the crash. No summonses have been issued.
