Bowling Ball, Shopping Carts, Tires Found In Waterways In Somerset County

BRIDGEWATER, NJ — You would be surprised to see what is lying beneath the waterways in Somerset County.

Over the past two weeks, the Central Jersey Stream Team cleaned up countless of miscellaneous items from the Peter's Brook Greenway in Somerville and Bridgewater.

On Nov. 21, the team removed:

• 13 tires,
• a refrigerator,
• a TV,
• a 55 gallon drum,
• a plastic fender,
• some sections chimney pipe,
• 8 bags of trash,
• lots of glass bottles,
• lots of random metal.

On Nov. 12 the group pulled out:

• 15 tires,
• 8 shopping carts (the most ever from a single cleanup),
• 5 bicycles (3 whole, 2 in pieces),
• a scooter,
• a lawn mower,
• 3 traffic barrels,
• a traffic cone,
• 5 plastic garbage cans,
• a large corrugated PVC pipe,
• 2 mopping buckets,
• metal bed frame,
• mattress,
• bathroom sink,
• bowling ball (the first time the team has found one),
• file cabinet,
• luggage,
• long fluorescent bulb,
• lots of pallets and wood,
• 32 bags of trash,
• 6 bags of recycling.

The grass-root non-profit organization is made up of volunteers who clean New Jersey's rivers and inspire others to do the same.

The Somerset County Park Commission took care of the trash disposal.
