Truck Hauling Fireworks Ignites, Causes Delays On I-287 In Bridgewater

BRIDGEWATER, NJ — A tractor-trailer hauling fireworks ignited on Interstate 287 in Bridgewater causing delays on the highway from Sunday night into Monday.

New Jersey State Troopers went to the truck fire on I-287 southbound at milepost 15.4 in Bridgewater at 10:27 p.m., said Trooper Brandi Slota.

The truck was driving southbound when in the area of milepost 15.4 the driver saw a dolly tire was on fire, said Slota.

The trailer was carrying a large amount of fireworks at the time, which caught fire giving motorists stuck in the traffic an early Fourth of July show.

No injuries were reported.

All lanes were closed on Sunday night and most reopened as of Monday morning. One lane remained closed for cleanup until Monday afternoon.
