Area Gymnasts Vault to Podium at JOGA
12 Tumble Techs gymnasts earn 28 medals.
Several gymnasts from Tumble Techs Gymnastics Academy of Fairfield capped off their season atop the podium at the recent Jersey Optional Gymnastics Association State Championships.
Twelve local athletes, ranging in age from 10 to 18, represented Tumble Techs in three different levels of competition and earned 28 total medals. The team consists of Level 4 gymnasts Marissa Corso, Sydney Shannon, Annie Glessner-Fischer, and Marisa Lakin, Level 5 gymnasts Clara Cvik, Victoria de la Rosa, and Renee Lux, and Level 6 gymnasts Sofia Albanese, Nicole Caldera, Harmonie Chang, Patricia Giuriceo, Grace Russo, and Emma Yee.
Graduating senior Glessner-Fischer, 18, finished first all-around in the final JOGA competition of her career and she also added a vault state title to her resume. Corso, 16, was crowned floor state champion and finished seventh in the all-around. Teammate Sydney Shannon, 13, placed on multiple events including a fourth place finish on floor and a sixth place finish in the all-around competition. Several younger team members also contributed to the medal count, including top ten finishes from Cvik, Lux, de la Rosa, Albanese, Caldera, Giuriceo, Russo, and Yee.
The girls train six hours per week with head coach Rick Gonzalez, as well as attending open tumbling and practice sessions.
