Classes Canceled for Caldwell Day

Caldwell College students, faculty and staff participate in fourth annual day of service.

Classes Canceled for Caldwell Day

Caldwell College students and faculty are skipping class, again.

The fourth annual Caldwell Day, a day of service, will take place on Friday, Oct. 5.

Classes are cancelled for students, faculty and staff who will gather on campus at 9:30 a.m. and disperse to various volunteer sites throughout North Jersey.

They’ll go to Roseland United Methodist Church and the Essex County Environmental Center in Roseland, the Community Church of Cedar Grove in Cedar Grove, as well as help out at the Caldwell Fire Department, Caldwell Environmental Commission, St. Catherine Health Care Center on campus and Marian Manor near campus.

Volunteer activities will include painting, cleaning, garden clean-up, reading to the elderly, working as a teacher’s assistant, helping young people with resume writing, cooking meals and doing crafts.

Students, staff and faculty return to campus at 2:30 p.m. to reflect on the day of service.

“Service is one of the pillars of Caldwell College and this is a wonderful opportunity to integrate service into education and learning,” stated Caldwell College President Nancy. H. Blattner in a release. “This is our fourth annual Caldwell Day and our students, faculty and staff always enjoy going out together to give back to the community.”

Other volunteer sites include: Sacred Heart School in Lyndhurst, St. Joseph School in Orange, Affirmation Academy/Queen of Angels, Newark Renaissance House, Covenant House and Christ the King in Newark, Magnificat Home in Jersey City, Academy of St. Francis in Totowa, Our Lady Help of Christians in East Orange, the Kingsland Manor in Nutley, and the Community Food Bank of New Jersey in Hillside.
