Half of North Caldwell Loses Power, Again

Blown fuses seem to be cause of widespread outages Wednesday afternoon.

Half of North Caldwell Loses Power, Again

Half of the borough of North Caldwell is in the dark again Wednesday afternoon, according to Police Chief Mark Deuer.

Deuer said three fuses blew on Smull Avenue around 1 p.m. Wednesday causing power outages from Gould Avenue south toward Bloomfield Avenue.

The issue comes less than 24 hours since power was restored to the borough, which was 100% in the dark after Hurricane Sandy swept through the town on Monday, Oct. 29.

Deuer said he could see the fuses hanging down on Smull and that PSE&G had been notified.

"We are trying to get a truck out here to fix them," he said around 2:30 p.m.

“We’re optimistic that the power will come back on shortly," he said.

Meanwhile, snow from the winter storm Athena was blanketing the borough midday Wednesday.

Department of Public Works Director Frank Zichelli said a total accumulation of a half-inch to three-and-a-half inches is expected.
