West Caldwell Man Struck Crossing Bloomfield

Police say he was not in crosswalk.

West Caldwell Man Struck Crossing Bloomfield

A 66-year-old man who was struck by a car while crossing Bloomfield Avenue in West Caldwell Friday has been released from the hospital, according to police.

The West Caldwell man was not in a crosswalk, police said, when he attemped to cross the busy county road around 12:30 p.m. and was hit in the westbound lanes in front of the Original Pancake House near the intersection of Passaic Avenue.

The West Essex First Aid Squad transported the man to St. Joseph's Medical Center in Paterson where he was treated and released.

The driver, an 18-year-old man from West Caldwell, was not charged, Chief Michael Bramhall said.

Bramhall said the man was crossing over to where there is a Wendy's and a Shell station, but his destination was not clear. He said he was not carrying a gas can.

The westbound lanes of Bloomfield Avenue were closed during the investigation.
