Cinnaminson Native Will Compete For Olympic Gold

Steve Kasprzyk and his teammates will compete in the Men's Eight Rowing Gold Medal Round Saturday morning.

Cinnaminson’s Steve Kasprzyk and his teammates on the Team USA Men’s Eight Rowing Team will compete for gold medals Saturday morning after their victory on Thursday in the 2016 Summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

Team USA won the Men’s Eight repechage in 5:51.13 on Thursday. The Netherlands was second with a time of 5:52.95.

The finals are set for Saturday, 10:24 a.m.

Kasprzyk is competing alongside Austin Hack (Old Lyme, Conn.),Rob Munn (Redmond, Wash.), Mike DiSanto(Boston, Mass.), Glenn Ochal (Philadelphia, Pa.), Alex Karwoski (Hollis, N.H.), Hans Struzyna (Kirkland, Wash.) and Sam Dommer (Folsom, Calif.).

The team qualified for the Olympics with a first place finish in Switzerland in May.

The 34-year-old Drexel University graduate began rowing when he was in school at Drexel, and has spent a total of seven years on the men’s national team.
