Yogawood In Riverton to Close

The popular yoga studio's last month will be March. The Collingswood location will remain open.

Yogawood In Riverton to Close

Yogawood, the popular yoga studio in downtown Riverton on the corner of Howard and Main streets, is set to close in March 2013. Yogawood owner Beth Filla sent this email over the weekend.

Stay tuned for a full story on the closing.

A couple of months back, classes at Yogawood were focused on the first Yoga Sutra: Attah Yoga Nushasanam. There are a lot of ways to translate that, like “the state of yoga is found in the present moment,” or “the practice of yoga begins now.” We practice to improve our ability to be present, to learn from past actions, and to make future choices based on our clearest intentions. I’m glad we share in this practice, always, but especially at times like this, when its lessons are so applicable to “real life.”

I’m sorry to tell you that Yogawood is going to be closing its Riverton location at the end of March 2013.

Yogawood in Riverton has been voted Best Yoga Studio in Burlington County every year since we opened–a true testament to the fantastic teachers at the studio and to the sense of community that all of you who have practiced there have created. In her role as Riverton Studio Coordinator, Maiga Milbourne has made connections with businesses, community members, and local government and has created a wonderful network of people who teach yoga in Burlington County. Yogawood has made tremendous improvements to the building at 531 Main Street, and has worked hard to be an asset to the town of Riverton and the surrounding communities.

It’s hard to step away from this, but it takes a lot of resources to keep two branches of the studio open and offering the level of practice that we know you deserve. For Yogawood to stay strong, we’re going to focus our energy on the Collingswood studio after this spring.

This change is five months away. I was hoping to hold the weight of this information, myself, until at least December. Unfortunately, the news has gotten out–and I’m so sorry if you heard it from someone other than me, first.

Anticipating some of questions you might have, I can tell you that we’re waiting until the end of March so that the winter months, when people seem to practice most, are uninterrupted. We also have teacher training sessions and some wonderful workshops and series scheduled in Riverton between now and March; and we want people who invested in the Year of Yoga to get the most out of it in their home studio before we make other arrangements with them.

Many of your favorite teachers from Riverton also teach in Collingswood, and at other studios in the area. We’ll be sure you know how and where to find everybody before we go! We hope you’ll buy class packages wisely–always, but especially from January through March. You will be able to use any remaining classes at the Collingswood studio after March 31, but if coming to Collingswood is not realistic for you, you’ll need to take that into consideration. Rest assured that the Collingswood studio will remain open. We have no plans for opening another location for the foreseeable future.

You never start something thinking you’re going to end it, right? And I’m so sorry if this catches you by surprise or if it feels like a big loss. This hasn’t been an easy decision to make, and it’s our intention to slowly and thoughtfully end our time in the space. We still have five months, plenty of time to practice together in Riverton. Beyond that, we’ll be in Collingswood, and we’re forever practicing off the mat, together, whether we’re conscious of it or not.

Namaste (we bow in gratitude to you),
