Missing Linden Man Found Dead, Newark Police Investigating
Jeffrey Mendoza, 20, of Linden was attending Union County College where he also served as captain of the men's soccer team.

LINDEN, NJ — A Linden man and Union County College student, who had been missing for more than a week, was reportedly found dead, authorities said.
"It is with great sadness that we confirm that 20-year-old Linden resident Jeffrey Mendoza has passed away. The investigation has been turned over to the Newark Police Department, and out of respect for the privacy of the family we will not provide any further comment regarding the circumstances surrounding his death," said Linden Police Lt. Christopher Guenther.
"We thank all of you who shared Jeffrey's picture in the hopes he would return home, and we ask that you join us in praying for Jeffrey's family and friends during this incredibly difficult time," said Guenther.

Mendoza had been reported missing since Sunday, Feb. 21.
Mendoza was attending Union County College and majoring in business. This was to be his final semester at the college. He was served as the captain for the college's men's soccer team.

"Any loss of life is tragic, but Jeffrey was just 20-year-old with his whole life ahead of him," said UCC President Dr. Margaret McMenamin. "He was a well-liked young man, and I know he will be deeply missed by his teammates and friends across the college community."
The college is offering virtual grief services for students and staff.
Services for Mendoza will be held on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Werson Funeral Home, 635 North Wood Ave. in Linden.
