Collingswood Restripes, Adds Crosswalks

The crosswalk improvements are one of the borough's many plans to improve walkability.

Collingswood Restripes, Adds Crosswalks

The Borough of Collingswood will be re-striping crosswalks at nearly every intersection in the city and adding new crosswalks in congested areas.

We are hearing and seeing that our crosswalks need attention,” said Collingswood Mayor James Maley.

“Over the last few years we haven’t been able to keep up with striping as much due to cutbacks," the Mayor said. "This is a major push that will get our streets in good shape for pedestrians and looking forward we’ll be able to provide more regular striping maintenance.”

According to the real estate research site WalkScore.com, Collingswood is a very walkable town, with a score of 75 out of 100. Most errands in Collingswood can be accomplished on foot.

Borough officials hope that the new striping will help to improve the town's walkability and encourage continuing usage of the central business district. So far, they've introduced new signage and stricter enforcement, and are planning to reconfigure bus stops and parking and install a new fountain/median planned this fall.
