Moorestown Woman Paid $1M in 'Protection' to Therapist

A Moorestown woman paid out $1 million over the course of a year to a Lumberton woman who allegedly conned her into believing it would "prevent illness or evil from befalling” the victim or her daughter, police said Thursday.

Moorestown Police arrested Linda Gerber, 49, of the unit block of Ridge Avenue, Lumberton, on Wednesday at her Mount Laurel-based business, Therapeutic Solutions. Gerber was charged with one count of theft by deception.

Moorestown Sgt. Lee Lieber said that from July 2011 to August 2012, Gerber "purport[ed] to be providing a service to the victim to keep her from harm." He declined to provide further specifics, citing an ongoing investigation.

Lieber said the case was triggered by the victim's recent realization that she was being conned, and came to the police for help.

Gerber was remanded to the Burlington County Jail Women’s Facility in Pemberton on $75,000 bail. She’ll appear before a judge early next week.
