Twenty-three hours of music.

Seventy performances.

One John Lennon “Imagine” piano.

That's the concept for 70 on 70, a free showcase of local performers this weekend at Jacobs Music Company's new home in the Barclay Farms Shopping Center of Chery Hill.

The event kicks off with a performance by Krishna Thiagarajan, president of Camden-based Symphony in C, at noon Friday, and continues through the weekend.

Performances ranging from classical to jazz to rock by pros and amateurs alike are slated from noon to 2 p.m. and 4 to 7 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday (see attached schedule).

Part of the weekend will be dedicated to young piano students who are participating in a “Perform-a-thon” to help raise money for Children's Regional Hospital at Cooper University Hospital in Camden.

Concertgoers will also have the chance to check out and play a Steinway and Sons John Lennon “Imagine” series piano, which features plenty of the late Beatle's touches, from one of his drawings embedded in the music desk to the opening bars of “Imagine” printed on the gold plate of the instrument.

Jacobs is also taking donated instruments as part of an ongoing effort with the Cherry Hill Education Foundation to provide low-income students with band and orchestra instruments.
