Kean University students Lisa Shedden and Stanley Kadelski recently showcased their business acumen in the 2014 Fall Foundation® Capsim Business Simulation Challenge – an international competition that attracted more than 359 teams from business schools in 38 countries. Shedden and Kadelski were one of six teams to make the finals and compete in the 48-hour high-pressure playoffs.

“I really enjoyed the uncertainty that we faced while making our decisions,” said Kadelski. “Since the industry is constantly changing, you are always faced with different questions to answer. That uncertainty makes every consecutive round exciting and even more challenging.”

More than 1750 students entered the competition, which is held twice each year and open to anyone who has completed Capstone or Foundation Business Simulation. Capsim Challenge Coordinator Anthony Illuzzi said it was exciting to see entrants from six continents in the competition. “We had teams from Egypt and Kenya on the African continent, from Romania, France, Belgium and Austria in Europe; teams from Australia; Thailand, Vietnam, Singapore and India in Asia; from the United States, Canada & Mexico; plus Chile & Brazil from South America – and that’s just a sample!” said Illuzzi. “The competition finalists may still be at university, but they have already learned what it takes to be able to balance a company’s operational, financial and sales goals under pressure.”

The Capsim Business Simulation Challenge provides students with an intense, time constrained management experience. Shedden and Kadelski distinguished themselves in the contest, pitting their business skills against formidable competitors from around the world.
