Three men broke into glass cases at Martin Jewelers on North Avenue Thursday afternoon, according to the Cranford Police Department.

The men entered the store at approximately 12:51 p.m. and smashed a display case with sledgehammers, police said. The men then fled with two Rolex watches, worth approximately $35,000, when Patrolman Timothy O’Brien saw one of the men exiting the front door, police said. After a brief chase on foot, O’Brien apprehended the man.

Tyrone Dehoyos, 35, of Queens, NY, was arrested and charged with theft and resisting arrest.

Dehoyos was transported to Union County Jail pending a Superior Court appearance on Jan. 13.  His bail is set at $50,000.

The other two men exited through a rear door and left in what was described as a silver BMW with a black bumper guard and Pennsylvania license places, witnesses said.

"The two suspects at large are described as black or dark Hispanic males wearing dark blue or black jackets," a press release from the department said. "One had a ski style hat with a pompom."

Cranford Police and members from the Union County Sheriff’s department were on scene in the lot behind Martin Jewelers following the incident.

No weapons were displayed and no threats were made during the incident. Also, no one was injured, police said. Police are still investigating the incident and interviewing any witnesses.
