Council Lowers Speed Limit on Stretch of Dunhams Corner Road

The speed limit on Dunhams Corner Road has been lowered from 40 MPH to 30 MPH along a stretch that has been the focus of a traffic study and safety recommendations.

On Monday night, the township council voted unanimously to lower the speed limit on Dunhams Corner Road between the Ireland Brook Bridge and Cranbury Road from 40 MPH to 30 MPH.

The reduction in speed came at the recommendation of the township Planning Department, who conducted a traffic study on Dunhams Corner Road in light of accidents there, the worst of which claimed the lives of a husband and wife in September as they walked home from Young Israel.

Lane narrowing will also be performed to ease traffic along the roadway, and alterations are already underway on the pedestrian signals where Hardenberg Lane and Ryders Lane intersect the road, according to planning and zoning director Greg Potkulski.

According to Potkulski's report at the Feb. 5 council meeting, 148 accidents were reported on Dunhams Corner Road in the past three years.
