State Police said two tractor trailers crashed on the New Jersey Turnpike north, near mile marker 82 in East Brunswick.

The drivers suffered minor injuries, State Police said.

There were embers in the neighborhood nearby, but there were no house fires as a result of the truck fire, East Brunswick police Lt. Kevin F. Zebro said.

Austin Kosik, the Emergency Management/911/Communications System Coordinator for East Brunswick Township, said fire was on the Turnpike, not in East Brunswick proper.

At 8:58 p.m., he tweeted that the fire was under control, but there would be an extended period of mop-up and overhaul.

Police said traffic delays were expected. They told WNBC that they expected to begin re-opening lanes during the night.

The Port Authority confirmed via Twitter that the fire was south of Exit 9.

N. Jerzy Fire Alert ‏(@NJerzyFireAlert), a fire and police breaking news feed, tweeted a picture of the fire, which they said was at mile marker 82.3. “Multiple explosions” were reported by N.Jerzy Fire Alert and can also be heard in videos shared on social media.
