Summer is almost here, and that means more garbage pick-ups.
Beginning Monday, May 21, garbage will be picked up two times a week until the fall.
For several years the township has had a solid waste management program that includes twice a week collection during the summer months and once a week collection during the fall, summer and spring.
“The decision to change the manner in which solid waste was picked up from our residents was made only after much research and discussion,” said Mayor David Stahl. “The change from twice a week to once a week, with the exception of the summer months, has been incredibly successful and widely accepted by the residents."
Mayor Stahl said that since the change, there has been enough cost savings to be able to reduce municipal taxes. In addition, the program is constantly being modified.
“For example, we now start the twice a week collection in advance of the Memorial Day weekend and end it one week after the Labor Say holiday,” said Mayor Stahl. “This way, we can all enjoy family and friends and a good barbeque knowing that the extra garbage will be picked up. In addition, I expanded the policy of the Recycling Center to permit residents to bring their household waste to the Recycling Center six days a week. The Recycling Center has become one of the busiest township sites as residents know that just about anything that they want to dispose of will be accepted at the Recycling Center.”
