Woman, 60, Killed In East Brunswick Fire

EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ - A 60-year-old woman was killed Friday morning in a fire at her home in East Brunswick, Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew Carey and Chief James Conroy of the East Brunswick Police Department announced.

Tracy Baran, of 16 Nelson Circle in East Brunswick, was pronounced dead at the scene of the fire, which was reported to authorities at 4:39 a.m. An autopsy by the Middlesex County Medical Examiner’s Office determined that she died from smoke inhalation and carbon monoxide poisoning.

The cause of the fire did not appear to be suspicious, but the details remain under investigation. Firefighters were dispatched to the single-family home to battle the blaze, which caused extensive damage. No firefighters or police officers were injured.

The investigation is being conducted by Detective Michael Smith of the East Brunswick Police Department and Detective Nicholas Chiorello of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office.

Among those called to the scene were the East Brunswick Fire Department, the East Brunswick Fire Prevention Bureau, the East Brunswick Police Department, the Middlesex County Office of the Fire Marshal, and the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office.
