Fair Lawn native and army veteran Scott Ganz, 30, was discovered dead at his home in Orlando, Fla. this week.

Freeholder David Ganz's Son Found Dead

The son of former Fair Lawn mayor and current Bergen County Freeholder Chairman David Ganz was found dead in his Orlando, Fla. home this week, NorthJersey.com reports.

Scott Ganz, 30, was an army reservist who returned home last summer from Afghanistan where he served a 13-month tour as an explosive ordinance disposal specialist. He was a 2000 graduate of Fair Lawn High School.

Freeholder Vice Chairman Joan Voss announced the news of his death at Wednesday's freeholder work session and the board held a moment of silence for the Ganz family, according to NorthJersey.com.

David Ganz, who recently celebrated one decade of service on the freeholder board, placed a yellow ribbon on his fifth floor office door in the county administration building from the day his son was deployed until he returned safely last July.

The Fair Lawn Democratic Organization's Facebook page posted the following message regarding Scott Ganz's death:

It is with great sadness that we inform you of the death of Freeholder David Ganz's son, Scott. We do not have many details at this point. Due to the fact that this tragedy happened very recently, we ask that David and his family's privacy is respected at this time. David is such an integral part of our community, and when the time is right we know he will appreciate all of our love and support.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, Feb. 10 at 10 a.m. at Robert Schoem's Funeral Home, located at 150 Route 4 East in Paramus. There is not yet any information on the Shiva schedule.
