FRHSD Board Recognizes Freehold Student Achievements

At last month’s meeting of the Freehold Regional High School District Board of Education several Freehold High School students were recognized for a variety of accomplishments in the classroom and on the Colonial athletic teams.

Students who took the SAT exam in October were recognized for their perfect scores in individual sections. That includes junior Michael Gao who received a perfect score of 2400 in the math, critical reading and writing sections. He was also honored as a 2013 Merck Bio Scholar and has been doing research in the Rutgers Nelson Lab since the summer.

Also recognized for the SAT accomplishments were Elaine Liu who received a perfect score in the reading section and Sara Curcio, John DiBari, Sreeja Kodali and William Zembricki who received perfect scores in the math section. Sanijita Ekhelikar and fellow Freehold students Michelle Zhou and Ruchita Kothari all received perfect scores in the writing section.

Several students also earned perfect scores in more than one section, including Dominick Lam, Liezel Puzon and Anisha Gopu who aced the writing and math sections. Ellen Wu got perfect marks in the critical reading and writing sections.

Several Freehold students were also recognized as Commended Students in the 2014 National Merit Program including John DiBari, Robert Goldberg, Dominick Lam, Nishali Shah and Brian Yao. Four other students including Anisha Gopu, Sreeja Kodali, Liezl Puzon and Michelle Zhou were named semi-finalist students in the 2014 National Merit Scholarship Competition.

Freehold High School also has some talented singers and several were named to the New Jersey All-Shore Chorus. That group includes Michael Raia, Evan Kudish, Ethan Greenberg, Rachel Finger, Shannon Re and Claudia Gruber.

It was also a very successful fall season for the Colonials as Meghan Holtz and Sophia Duffy were named 1st Team All-Shore as members of the girls soccer team. The field hockey team was also recognized for bringing home the Central Jersey Group IV title and the Monmouth County Tournament champion girls tennis team was also honored.
