Gloucester Township Junior Police Academy Begins Monday
The annual Gloucester Township Junior Police Academy begins Monday.

The academy takes place July 21-Aug. 15. It is divided into four one-week sessions, with the first and third sessions reserved for juveniles 10-12 years of age and the second session is for juveniles 13-16 years of age.

The last session is the advanced course for those cadets that went through the basic course. At this time there are over 100 juveniles participating in the program.

The junior cadets will begin each morning with a physical fitness program.

Various exercises and drills have been designed by Community Relations Officers to maximize fitness for the cadets along with building teamwork skills.

After participating in physical fitness each cadet will participate in drill to help them learn the importance of teamwork and discipline.

Each day is broken down into time periods and covers various topics. The cadets will receive training on the History of Policing, Police Operations, Crime Scene, DARE, Firearms Safety, Health and Nutrition and much more.

The cadets also get a demonstration from the Gloucester Township Police K-9 Unit and Gloucester Township Special Response Team (SWAT) as well as a tour of the Camden County Youth Detention Facility, Police Academy, and Fire Academy.
