Police Officer Injured During Altercation With Prisoner
Anthony Dimaio was being processed on charges of burglary and throwing bodily fluids at a law enforcement officer when he attacked officers at police headquarters.
Anthony Dimaio, 35, of Drexel Hill, Pa., had been arrested and charged with burglary and throwing bodily fluids at a law enforcement officer. He was being escorted to a holding cell when he lunged at officers and began punching and kicking them.
He managed to obtain a belt with a metal buckle on it and attempted to strike officers with it, but was immediately disarmed.
Several officers eventually managed to subdue Dimaio, who was handcuffed and secured.
An officer suffered a minor knee injury. He was treated on the scene and released. Dimaio was transported to JFK Hospital Stratford Division. He was expected to be released and remanded to the Camden County Jail in default of $75,000 full cash bail.
Dimaio faces additional charges following the confrontation. Altogether, he is charged with two counts of aggravated assault on police, throwing bodily fluids at a law enforcement officer, two counts of weapons offenses, second degree burglary and several active warrants.
