Burglary Suspect Found Hiding in 2nd-Floor Bathroom

An alert caller helped foil a burglary Tuesday morning by calling Haddon Township police after a neighbor's door had just been kicked in.

Police rushed to the 900 block of Belmont Ave. shortly after 10:30 a.m. and found a suspect inside the home, hiding in a second-floor bathroom. The caller told officers the suspect was still in the house and provided a detailed description.

The suspect, James Richardson, 25, of the 200 block of Beechwood Ave., Oaklyn, was charged with burglary, theft, criminal mischief and possession of burglary tools.

Collingswood police also responded to the call.

"The Haddon Township Police Department would like to remind residents to properly secure their homes at all times and to contact the police IMMEDIATELY if they observe someone suspicious in their neighborhoods," a police statement said. "Suspicious individuals would include someone knocking on your door that you do not know or expect. Many burglars use door-to-door solicitations as a ruse in an attempt to determine if anyone is home prior to committing a burglary."
