Car Catches Fire At Wawa Gas Station In Somerset County

Volunteer firefighters extinguished the car fire on Sunday morning on Somerset Street.

FRANKLIN, NJ — A car caught fire while at a gas station in Franklin on Sunday morning.

At 9:47 a.m., Franklin Firefighters were dispatched to the WaWa on Somerset Street for a vehicle fire.

The "car owner was pulling away from the pumps and realized his engine compartment was on fire," said Franklin Police Captain Vincent T. Wilson.

Firefighters found a motor compartment fire and stretched the front bumper foam line. They then opened the hood of the car for total extinguishment, said East Franklin Fire Department.

No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is unknown, said Wilson.

Car owner was pulling away from the pumps and realized his engine compartment was on fire. East Franklin and Community Fire arrived and extinguished the fire.

The fire was extinguished and cleared in 20 minutes, said the fire department.
