Drunk Driving Crackdown Continues in Hillsborough

Driving home from the office party after imbibing too much punch at the office party may be more likely to draw police attention this month, as Hillsborough police work to crackdown on drunk driving.

The township confirmed last week the police are participating in the NJ Division of Highway Safety's "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" year-end statewide crackdown. The program runs from Dec. 7 through Jan. 2, 2013, focused on increased enforcement of drunk driving laws.

New Jersey law defines a blood alcohol content level of 0.08 percent or higher as intoxicated.

The Township Committee approved a resolution reaffirming its commitment to the the drunk driving crackdown at its Dec. 18 meeting. The resolution notes alcohol is a contributing factor in 25 percent of motor vehicle fatalities, and impaired drivers kill 50 people per day in the U.S., almost 18,000 annually.
