Boat Catches Fire In Hoboken, Man Swims To Safety: Report

A boat docked in the Hudson River near Hoboken caught fire and forced the man to jump overboard, a report says.

A local boater was forced to jump overboard and swim to safety after his vessel caught fire on Sunday night in Hoboken.

The man was sleeping on his boat – which was moored in the Hudson River – when it caught fire, according to Fios1 News.

A neighbor saw the flames and called 911, but not before the man was forced to jump overboard and swim to the safety of a nearby dock, Fios1 reported.

Hoboken Fire Chief William Rozmester stated that firefighters spent two hours dousing the boat with water until it sank. Emergency responders then transported the man to Hoboken University Medical Center.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, Fios1 reported.
