Cliffside Park Driver Arrested Near Holland Tunnel: Pills, Marijuana Found
The Cliffside Park man is accused of ramming two police cars during a separate incident in April, authorities say.

Jersey City, NJ – Port Authority police arrested a Cliffside Park man with a suspended driver’s license and an arrest record on Thursday after finding almost 100 prescription pills and a small amount of marijuana in his car near the Holland Tunnel.
The latest arrest for Giovanni Petrov, 36, comes only two months after he allegedly rammed two police cars during a traffic stop in April, authorities said.
According to the Port Authority of NY/NJ, an officer allegedly observed Giovanni Petrov, 36, driving a tan Cadillac with an expired registration at 14th and Manila Streets in Jersey City around 5:15 p.m.

After pulling Petrov over, the officer allegedly noticed the smell of marijuana coming from the driver’s side window of the car.
The officer found five bags of marijuana, two rolled joints and a plastic bottle with 88 clonazepam pills (a schedule IV narcotic), authorities stated.

According to police, Petrov told officers that he was using the medicine to treat anxiety.
After conducting a computer check, the officer found that Petrov’s license had been suspended and he had an open ATS warrant. In addition, the car was allegedly uninsured and unregistered, police said.
Police arrested Petrov and impounded his vehicle. Authorities charged him with Possession of a Schedule IV narcotic, Possession of CDS with Intent to Distribute, Possession of Marijuana and additional traffic violations.
He was assigned a $75,000 bail and transported to Hudson County Jail.
