Hoboken Mayor Commends Local Students for Their Roles in SATMax Program
Business students from Stevens Institute tutor 16 Hoboken Junior Senior High School test takers.

Hoboken Mayor Dawn Zimmer recently commended six Stevens Institute of Technology undergraduates and 16 Hoboken Junior Senior High School (HJSHS) students for their roles in the SATMax program, which helps to prepare local test takers for the SAT and PSAT exams.
According to a release, Stevens faculty and students worked as tutors to help HJSHS students in the four areas of SAT and PSAT test-taking: math skills, verbal skill, written composition and testing strategies.
Stevens business students Daniela Cardona, Andrea Dragoni, Brandon Griffin, Paul Killian, Matthew Morton and J.J. Shannon worked as tutors, while Donald Lombardi served as SATMax director.

During a recent recognition ceremony at Stevens, Zimmer told attendees that the SATMax program is helping to create the leaders of tomorrow.
“Some of you will be here at Stevens, some of you will be across the country, but you’ll all be learning and growing and leading,” Zimmer said. “What I believe is most important is that, whatever you do, you have to try your hardest at it.”

Members of the Hoboken Board of Education also attended the event. Board President Ruth Tyroler thanked Stevens for the SATMax initiative.
“Giving our children the opportunity to work with Steven’s faculty and student tutors gives our students the tools, confidence and enthusiasm to become highly successful college students,” said Tyroler.
“We are very proud of our students for this accomplishment and equally proud to have them represent Hoboken High School.”
Robin Piccapietra, principal at Hoboken Junior Senior High School, also praised the program.
“We do our best to instill in our students the virtues of community and cooperation throughout their time at HJSHS, emphasizing the importance of giving back and paying it forward. The SATMax embodied all of that and more, and our students will forever be grateful for the time and educational experience that our friends from Stevens provided,” said Piccapietra.
