The Cage to Reopen as a Cuban-Inspired Restaurant
Hoboken's only gay bar closed for renovations that will transform it into a cafe/lounge on June 11.
Hoboken's only gay bar -- which has been open for eight years -- closed on June 11 for renovations that will transform it into a Cuban-inspired cafe/lounge.
The management is shooting to open the new restaurant in the space on Newark Street in late August or early September, according to Alan Fox, a former Cage manager and future manager of the new establishment.
Next-door neighbor is currently hosting gay nights on Tuesday and Wednesday catering to former Cage patrons. OMG Mondays ("Oh My Gay Mondays") will kick off on July 18 with a fashion show.

Fox said that the new cafe/lounge will cater to a general clientele.
"Since we want equality, why should we have a gay bar," he said.
