Lost Hiker Found by Police

A Hopatcong man who became lost after entering the woods with his dogs was aided by authorities and found on Sunday afternoon, said.

Police said that on Sunday shortly before 1 p.m., a 62-year-old Leo Avenue resident called the department saying that he was lost. The man had taken his dogs for a walk in the woods at the end of the road, and was unable to find his way out, police said.

Officers went to various locations and turned on their sirens while they were on the phone with the hiker, according to police. Police said the hiker found he could hear the sirens closer to him when they were driving on Berkley Road.

Officers located the hiker at approximately a mile and a half into the woods after they entered, police said.

Police said the hiker was led out of the woods, at which time he was given water and placed in air conditioning after complaining of exhaustion. Police said the Hopatcong First Aid Squad examined him, but that he did not need to go to the hospital.
