More than 300 Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus supporters, staff and physicians gathered at the Eagle Oaks Golf & Country Club for the hospital Foundation’s annual Humanitarian Gala honoring Paul C. Hiley, M.D., Jane Maroney and Robert C. Novy, Esq. – award recipients for their respective physician, community and corporate leadership.
The 2014 Gala was first Gala under the Lakewood hospital’s new name – the hospital has officially merged with Long Branch-based Monmouth Medical Center and is now Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus.
The Gala featured auction items, dinner and dancing, with proceeds from the event benefiting programs and services at Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus.
“The Foundation’s annual gala celebrates the hospital’s achievements and serves as a fundraising initiative to ensure we can continue to provide the programs and services necessary to meet the community’s needs,” said Denice Gaffney, Vice President of Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus Foundation. “The gala also gives us an opportunity to pay tribute to the outstanding individuals and organizations who support us.”
This year, the Foundation presented Humanitarian Awards to leaders in medicine, the community, and business to recognize their charitable efforts supporting the hospital and region.
Paul C. Hiley, M.D. received the 2014 Physician Leadership Award. Since joining Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus as an associate attending physician in 1971, Dr. Hiley has held many leadership positions within the hospital, including his current role on the executive committee. An internist specializing in gastroenterology, Dr. Hiley is a fellow of the American College of Gastroenterology and previously served as president of the Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus Medical Staff, member of the Board of Trustees at Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus and chief of gastroenterology.
Jane Maroney was honored with the Community Leadership Award. Maroney is an active member of her community – she assists families in planning funerals and prays the rosary with local nursing home residents through the Funeral Liturgy Community. Maroney is also active in the Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus community. In addition to organizing flu and shingles shot clinics through Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus, Maroney has been heavily involved in the hospital’s Auxiliary Council since 2001, serving as treasurer, vice president and president. She has also served as chair of the Annual Auxiliary Luncheon, attracting more than 300 auxilians each year. As president, Maroney has served on the hospital’s Board of Trustees and its Foundation Board for the past five years. Her efforts in furthering the mission of both the hospital and its auxiliary were recognized in 2006, when she received the NJHA community advocate award that “personifies the qualities of loyalty, compassion and leadership.”
Robert Novy, Esq., founder of Novy & Associates, was recognized with the Corporate Leadership Award. As one of the most respected and sought-after elder law attorneys in Monmouth and Ocean counties, Novy helps his clients live with autonomy, independence and dignity. He has practiced law in New Jersey since 1976 and is admitted to practice before the Federal District Court of New Jersey and the United States Supreme Court. He has also served as a member of the NJ Commission on Aging. Not only does he serve the community in a professional manner, but Novy is a recognized philanthropist, receiving dozens of awards for his generosity. He and his wife have three adult children. In addition to serving as a member of the Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus Foundation Board since 2008, Novy is a member of the New Jersey Alzheimer’s Disease Study Commission and serves as chairman of Legacy and Planned Giving for Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus Medical Center.
The Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus Foundation was created to support Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus and the programs and services it provides. The Foundation’s accomplishments are funded through contributions from individuals, corporations and other donors for state-of-the-art equipment, facility improvement and programs. The Foundation enjoys the support of thousands of friends, especially the members of the Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus Auxiliary Association, whom not only raise funds for the hospital, but also serve as “ambassadors” in the community.
