Township Gearing Up For Summer Camps

Wide variety of programs offered to children of all ages

Township Gearing Up For Summer Camps

Summer is just around the corner here in Howell and once again the township is rolling out a full slate of activities for the younger residents of the township.

One of the biggest programs being offered is the general summer camp being offered for children in kindergarten through fifth grade. The five week program starts on Monday July 2 and ends on Friday Aug. 3. The day runs from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and includes arts and crafts, gym time, outdoor activities, theme days and more.

The registration fee is $250 but early bird registration through April 27 takes $25 off the total. Transportation is not provided and parents are also encouraged to send the campers with a snack and a daily drink. Registration for the camp is set to close on June 1.

Steven Fecher, the township's Director of Community Relations, said the camp will be held at and . Last year between the two locations there were close to 1000 campers and he is hoping for similar numbers if not more this year.

Last year the camp was only held four days a week but Fecher said it is back to five this year. "I think Monday through Friday is going to help, especially the working families that they don't have to look for a babysitter and pay an additional fee on top of it," he said.

In addition to the camp there is also a Teen Expedition being offered for students in sixth through 12th grade. The five week program runs the same time with both closed on July 4.

Teen Expedition has a $160 fee with the $25 early bird registration discount. The camp will be held either Monday, Wednesday and Friday or Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

Trips will have additional costs and all those attending trips must pay their fees by June 1.

Some of the trips schedule for this year include the new iPlay America in Freehold, Allaire State Park and the older campers will be going to Sahara Sam's, a water park in West Berlin.

There is also a Teen Adventures program for campers with special needs from sixth grade through 26-years old. Teen Adventures has a $150 registration fee and both teen camps registrations start on May 7.

Registration can be done at or on the Township's website
